Foodie fun at the Oxford Literary Festival

Hey! Did you know? It’s the Oxford Literary Festival at the end of this month. And good for them, they haven’t kept it just to classic literature, but have plenty of food-related events going on too. We’re going to a talk by Matthew Fort all about food writing, and there are a lot of other lectures and events going on.
Our pick of the best of the bunch are:
- Duncan McRae and David Piper talking about gin and literature, sponsored by Hendrick’s Gin, with samples throughout (Sat 24 March, 6pm, £15)
- Donna Leon and Joanne Harris on food in fiction – who could be better to tackle that subject? (Mon 26 March, 4pm, £10)
- Matthew Fort and Claudia Roden on food writing and the state of it right now (Mon 26 March, 12pm, £10)
But there is so much on offer that it’s hard to just pick three. I also love the family carvery lunch that the festival is running at Christ Church on Sunday 1 April – it was used as the model for Hogwarts Hall in Harry Potter so will be very atmospheric.
The festival runs from 24 March to 1 April 2012 and tickets are on sale now via www.oxfordliteraryfestival.org or 0870 343 1001.
We’re looking forward to sharing what we’ve learned about food writing on our return.
