Here’s a really easy recipe for making cheese sticks. Once you know the basics, you’re free to make up your own variations, like using different cheese, spices or herbs! These went down really well at the cheese party…
- 1 cup plain flour
- ½tsp baking powder
- ½ cup strong cheddar, grated
- 2tbsp butter, diced
- pinch of cayenne pepper
- salt and pepper
Start by sifting the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. Add the butter and cheese and rub into the flour, until the mixture is crumbly and there’s no lumps of butter or cheese. Adding only a tablespoon of water at a time, combine the mixture together with a knife until in clumps together. Then, using your hands, squeeze the mixture into a ball.
Flour your work surface and rolling pin. Roll to around ½-¾cm thickness, and cut into 1-2cm strips. Give the strips a little twist, before placing on a well greased backing tray.
Bake in a medium-hot oven for around 15 minutes. Keep an eye on them, as you don’t want them to burn. Once golden brown on the edges, remove from the oven and allow to cool.
Enjoy with dips, or just on their own!
